We Finished Romans, Now What?! Guest Preachers (sort of) at High Pointe in March and April
(NOTE: Spring Forward | This Sunday, March 10, is Daylight Savings Time)
It was a joy to study Romans together. And it was encouraging to see how Paul’s writing of the letter ended in an eruption of praise “to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forevermore.” And, with Paul, we say, “Amen!”
After working through a book, I enjoy taking a break from preaching to prepare for our next study. Lord willing, we will begin our study of Judges on April 14. Until then, we welcome several guest preachers to our pulpit. Well, sort of. I say that because two of the preachers are staff, one we hope you will call to join our staff, and the other is the only true guest preacher.
This Sunday, March 10, we welcome Adam Tyson. Adam will be here as an instructor for the ACBC Counseling Conference. He will stay over on Sunday and serve us (and me) by preaching from Romans 1:13-15 (Yes! Back in Romans for one more sermon). I met Adam when he was a college student in central Georgia. The Lord gave me the opportunity to disciple him, and he is now a pastor in California. I trust you will be blessed by his preaching.
On Sunday, March 17, Pastor Davey will deliver his last official sermon at High Pointe. I know it will be a bittersweet time for him and us. In his faithfulness, Pastor Davey wants to encourage us from Acts 20, the passage where Paul says his goodbye to the elders of the church in Ephesus.
Then, on Sunday, March 24, Robert Cline will come to preach in view of a call to serve as our senior associate pastor. I shared a bio for Robert and his wife, Rona, during our members meeting. I also shared what the process would look like at that time. Next week, we will dedicate some space in this newsletter to focus our attention on Robert’s visit with us. Robert has been a blessing to me already. The prayer of the elders is that you would consider him to serve as our senior associate pastor. He will preach from Hebrews 13:20-21, the benediction of the letter, and I trust we will be encouraged by the Spirit’s work in him and us.
Believe it or not, Sunday, March 31, is Easter Sunday. I have not decided what text to preach yet, but I look forward to returning to the pulpit on Resurrection Sunday. Beginning this Sunday, we will have invite cards for you to take with you and invite your unchurched family and friends.
On April 7, Brother Kevin Washington will preach. This is the weekend of our men’s conference, and Kevin is our men’s conference speaker. Please join us in praying for our men and for all of us on that Sunday. If you know Kevin, you know that our time together will be a blessing.
And finally, Lord willing, on April 14, we will begin our study of Judges. We hope to provide scripture journals for Judges on a first come first served basis beginning this coming Sunday.
The Lord has blessed us mightily through the ministry of the word at High Pointe. Please continue praying that God would show us his glory in the face of Jesus Christ from the pages of Scripture by the ministry of the Spirit. And make every effort to join us on the second and fourth Sunday nights as we spend time in prayer and make our way through 1 Peter.
