Resources of the Week
  • Faith to Forgive – Peter Gurry
    • “When Dylann Roof shot and killed nine people attending a Wednesday night Bible study in Charleston, South Carolina, in 2015, there were two causes for shock. Roof’s heinous act was the obvious one. The other was forgiveness. Within days of the murders, Nadine Collier looked into the face of her mother’s killer at Roof’s bond hearing and said through tears,
"You took something very precious away from me. I will never talk to her ever again. I will never be able to hold her again. But I forgive you. And have mercy on your soul.”
  • Is the Bible Actually Trustworthy – Tim Challies
    • Do you have questions about the reliability of the Bible? Do you know someone who questions the Bible’s authority? Read this review about a new book on the reliability of the Scriptures. Let it encourage you.

  • Missions: Why Missions Organizations Must Prioritize the Local Church – Ryan Robertson
    • Too often we hear about missions divorced from talk of the place of the local church in missions. In this article, Ryan Robertson, president of Reaching & Teaching International Ministry (RTIM) helps us understand the place of the church in the role of missions.

Opportunities to Serve and Grow at High Pointe
Life Classes Begin Sunday, August 25!
Life Classes are meant to equip High Pointe for life as a Christian. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us. This session, we are offering the following classes from August 25 to December 5:

  • Growing in Prayer: This course will offer biblical wisdom and practical tools to help grow our prayer lives as individuals and as a church. We will learn from the biblical teaching on prayer and apply a simple framework beginning with Jesus’ teaching and the Lord’s Prayer. We'll explore different kinds of prayer in Psalms. From Paul's prayers, we'll re-focus our prayers. We'll gain confidence in praying the words of Scriptures. We'll also apply some strategies for when we don't feel like praying and how to pray when life just seems really hard and God seems distant.

  • Discipling: Principles and Practice: This life class aims to simplify what it means to be and make disciples in a local church context. After understanding what discipling is and the role of the local church, this course will provide practical insights and next steps. Participants will be challenged to take prayerful steps to help others grow in Christ. As they do so, they will also find joy and grow spiritually.

  • Student Ministry Life Class | Spiritual Disciplines: This course will only be for 6th-12th graders, and it will explore the topic of Spiritual Disciplines. The youth will grow in understanding what spiritual disciplines are, what role spiritual disciplines play in their lives, and how to practice spiritual disciplines. Please note: These classes will occur during the same time as the normal adult life classes and kids' life class. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mark Cambranis.

Our Children’s Ministry is Recruiting!
Our children’s ministries are currently planning and preparing for the fall. Our fall kick-off date for KidsPointe, the Kids’ Life class, and the Children’s Catechism Class is August 25. New volunteers are needed at this time in all areas, including Sunday morning and Sunday evening nursery classes. Members, please contact Erin Wyman for details about serving. We will also have a recruitment table in the front foyer after morning worship, August 4 and 11. Thank you for caring for and ministering to the children of High Pointe!

The High Pointe Institute | Wednesdays, Beginning August 28
The High Pointe Institute (HPI) is a one-year (two semester) discipleship program meant to offer a pathway for growing disciples to be equipped for ministry both in the church and the world. The goal is to form mature disciples who are growing in their knowledge and love for God, who take ownership of High Pointe’s ministries and mission, and who are committed to helping others follow Christ. This program will instill a commitment to Scripture and a better grasp of the biblical storyline, a solid foundation in Christian doctrine, and an increasing ability to connect theology to one’s life, worship, and mission.

HPI is designed for growing disciples of Christ who desire to be equipped for ministry and mission in whatever context God has placed them. ALL men and women are encouraged to participate. HPI is designed with High Pointe members in mind as a preparation for service and leadership. REGISTER HERE

Gospel Partner of the Month: Predica Fiel
In our approach to missions at High Pointe, we not only seek to send our best, we also want to equip and encourage those who are already serving in the field. One of the ways to do that is to provide training for national pastors and missionaries. Predica Fiel is a training ministry that equips pastors, missionaries, and church leaders in expositional teaching and preaching. They provide training workshops throughout the island of Cuba and the Spanish-speaking world.

Please pray that the Lord will give them favor and fruitfulness in their work. Pray that the Lord would grant them continued opportunities to train pastors, missionaries, and teachers. And pray that the Lord would provide all the resources they need to do their work.
