Sermon Series: What is the Mission of the Church? Beginning this Sunday Morning, August 18

As football season begins, so do fall camps. A few weeks before the first game, teams work on the fundamentals: tackling, installing plays, scrimmages, and establishing goals for the season. The beginning of a season is a good time to remember the mission. It’s the same for the us, the church of Jesus Christ called High Pointe. As we begin a new church year this fall, this is a good time for us to remember the fundamentals, particularly, our mission: Why do we exist?

We exist to see all peoples become whole-hearted followers of Jesus Christ by reaching unbelievers with the gospel of Christ, gathering worshipers into the body of Christ, and making disciples to the glory of God in Christ.

Beginning this Sunday, we will go back to the basics to remember our mission. We will take some time before returning to our study of Judges to preach a series of sermons on the mission of the church. Join us beginning this Sunday as we remember what God has made us for.

Life Classes Begin Sunday, August 25!

Life Classes are meant to equip High Pointe for life as a Christian. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us. This session, we are offering the following classes from August 25 to December 5:
  • Growing in Prayer: This course will offer biblical wisdom and practical tools to help grow our prayer lives as individuals and as a church. We will learn from the biblical teaching on prayer and apply a simple framework beginning with Jesus’ teaching and the Lord’s Prayer. We'll explore different kinds of prayer in Psalms. From Paul's prayers, we'll re-focus our prayers. We'll gain confidence in praying the words of Scriptures. We'll also apply some strategies for when we don't feel like praying and how to pray when life just seems really hard and God seems distant.
  • Discipling: Principles and Practice: This life class aims to simplify what it means to be and make disciples in a local church context. After understanding what discipling is and the role of the local church, this course will provide practical insights and next steps. Participants will be challenged to take prayerful steps to help others grow in Christ. As they do so, they will also find joy and grow spiritually.
  • Student Ministry Life Class | Spiritual Disciplines: This course will only be for 6th-12th graders, and it will explore the topic of Spiritual Disciplines. The youth will grow in understanding what spiritual disciplines are, what role spiritual disciplines play in their lives, and how to practice spiritual disciplines. Please note: These classes will occur during the same time as the normal adult life classes and kids' life class. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mark Cambranis.
  • Kids Life Class: We also offer childcare and a Life class for Kids, K-5th grade, that uses The Gospel Project, a study that “helps kids dive deep into the big story of the Bible – God’s plan to rescue His people through His Son, Jesus Christ.”

Our Children’s Ministry is Recruiting!
Our children’s ministries are currently planning and preparing for the fall. Our fall kick-off date for KidsPointe, the Kids’ Life class, and the Children’s Catechism Class is August 25. New volunteers are needed at this time in all areas, including Sunday morning and Sunday evening nursery classes. Members, please contact Erin Wyman for details about serving. Thank you for caring for and ministering to the children of High Pointe!

The High Pointe Institute | Wednesdays, Beginning August 28
The High Pointe Institute (HPI) is a one-year (two semester) discipleship program meant to offer a pathway for growing disciples to be equipped for ministry both in the church and the world. The goal is to form mature disciples who are growing in their knowledge and love for God, who take ownership of High Pointe’s ministries and mission, and who are committed to helping others follow Christ. This program will instill a commitment to Scripture and a better grasp of the biblical storyline, a solid foundation in Christian doctrine, and an increasing ability to connect theology to one’s life, worship, and mission.

HPI is designed for growing disciples of Christ who desire to be equipped for ministry and mission in whatever context God has placed them. ALL men and women are encouraged to participate. HPI is designed with High Pointe members in mind as a preparation for service and leadership. REGISTER HERE

Women's Fall Bible Studies
We offer two Bible studies on Wednesdays to serve and encourage the women of High Pointe. These Bible studies are also good opportunities to meet and interact with other ladies in the church.

  • Women's Morning Bible Study | Wednesdays, September 18 - November 20 | 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM
Join us for an inductive study of the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes. Together we will ponder with Solomon how life in this world works and its relationship to eternity and God Himself. For registration and questions contact Mary Delk or Jeanette Heflin.
  • Women's Evening Bible Study | Wednesdays, August 28 - December 4 | 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Ladies, you are invited to join us for an in-depth study of the Gospel of Mark. The book paints an important picture of Jesus – his identity, message, and why he came. For registration and questions contact Susan Horton or Marilyn Waters. Click HERE to register for the evening Bible Study.

Gospel Partner of the Month: Predica Fiel

In our approach to missions at High Pointe, we not only seek to send our best, we also want to equip and encourage those who are already serving in the field. One of the ways to do that is to provide training for national pastors and missionaries. Predica Fiel is a training ministry that equips pastors, missionaries, and church leaders in expositional teaching and preaching. They provide training workshops throughout the island of Cuba and the Spanish-speaking world.

Please pray that the Lord will give them favor and fruitfulness in their work. Pray that the Lord would grant them continued opportunities to train pastors, missionaries, and teachers. And pray that the Lord would provide all the resources they need to do their work.

On-Call Pastor
To better care for you, High Pointe, we have an “on-call” pastor available for emergencies after office hours and on weekends. To reach the on-call pastor, call 512-837-7725, extension 1.
