Life Together in Christ: A Package Deal | 1 Thessalonians 5:12-28
We completed our journey through 1 Thessalonians on Sunday with reminders like this:
We are to be an Everyday Church…we gather, but then we scatter. Relational holiness happens here on Sundays, and it happens whenever we gather but also as we scatter. Everywhere to our homes, schools, neighborhoods and workplaces.
The local church has been designed by God as a gift to help us all grow relationally as a family in Christ. So our personal/individual salvation is shrunk wrapped into the package deal called sanctification, the process of growing in Christlikeness, which is growing in relational holiness.
Ours is a common faith but also a common life. Paul is equipping us all for ministry to one another in Christ. To different kinds of people in a local church. When we gather, when we scatter..as we relate to our overseers, pastors, elders, deacons and other leaders…we glorify God through relational holiness…as we love God and we love one another.
Even loving relationships sometimes have conflict. What if we learned to reframe conflict as a God-given opportunity to live out the gospel, to overcome evil with good, to show what it looks like to love others well by seeking to do them good, to forgive one another and point one another to Jesus Christ as we learn to rejoice always that the God of peace is there to help us grow in relational holiness.
